Follow Customization
Notes, documentation, and best practices for customizing the For You page
Table of Contents
The Follow page gives your readers a personalised experience by allowing them to follow topics and authors they care about. This feature helps surface relevant stories based on their interests, making it easier to discover content they’ll love while increasing engagement and retention for your app.
Defining your Follow page
The Follow feature can be accessed in two ways: either as a dedicated item in the bottom navigation bar. Alternatively, it can be added as a trailing icon in the toolbar (we support up to two icons, one of which can be Follow).
From the toolbar or bottom navigation:
We recommend adding the “Follow” timeline as a dedicated tab in the bottom navigation for better discoverability and consistency with other core timelines.
While it’s technically possible to assign it to a trailing toolbar icon, this isn’t ideal and should only be considered if space is limited.
To support discoverability and ensure a smooth onboarding experience, please provide the following details for the tooltip.
What we need from you:
- Title and description for the tooltip discovery
- Recommended icon to represent the Follow timeline

Customising your Follow Page
- Add a title and description to set the tone for your Follow Page
- Decide what users can follow (we support authors and topics by default — let us know if you need more than two)
- Group items by section if you’re offering multiple taxonomies
- Set a CTA (call-to-action) for users to save their preferences
- Add an icon to the toolbar to let users revisit and edit their followed terms
Note: The term picker style is fixed — only the pill colour, text, and icons can be themed to match your brand
Edit Term Picker
Once a user follows any term and taps “Save,” they’ll see a confirmation message that their preferences have been saved. This means stories from those topics or authors will appear in their Follow timeline.
From the term picker, users can manage their preferences — adding or removing authors or topics as needed.
What we need from you:
- An edit icon to give users access to this page
- A tooltip title and description that explains what the icon does and guides users on how to edit their followed terms
