Interscrollers
Table of Contents
What is an Interscoller?
An interscroller is a rich media ad format that appears inline within content, typically creating a scroll-through effect where the ad appears full-screen as the user scrolls past it.
How they can work in Pugpig
Interscrollers work out of the box in Pugpig Bolt, served via an existing MPU ad slot. No custom development by Pugpig is required.
The key principle is that if an interscroller creative works on mobile web, it should work in a Bolt app. Bolt apps use web technology to display most content, so the ad rendering environment is fundamentally the same.
They can be placed on both the timeline and in-article. In both cases, the interscroller is loaded into an existing MPU ad slot. The advert's behaviour is handled entirely by the vendor's JavaScript within the creative. Pugpig serves the ad tag into the slot and the creative does the rest.
Google Ad Manager setup
There is no built-in interscroller creative type in GAM. All interscroller implementations are custom creatives. When trafficking you should:
- Target an MPU slot already configured in the Pugpig advertising settings
- Use a third-party or custom creative type that references the rich media vendor's JS file or hosted HTML page
- Target ad size 300x250 (standard MPU)
Building the creative
If you don't have experience in-house, you will probably want to consider using an agency or vendor to build your creative.
The creative is typically delivered as a JavaScript tag or a hosted HTML page that the agency places into GAM as a custom creative. The interscroller logic, animation, and scroll behaviour all live inside that creative.
You will want to confirm that:
- The creative is a true interscroller (not a wrapper that loads another creative)
- The creative is set up as a direct custom creative in GAM, not a 1x1 passback tag
- The creative doesn't use MRAID
