Content URL
Table of Contents
The content URL is a parameter passed by Google's Mobile Ads SDK to Google Ads.
Content mapping helps deliver contextually relevant ads to your users and helps ensure ads are placed near content that’s suitable for your advertisers. This enables more advertisers to bid safely on your inventory, which may help to maximize your revenue.
Article Page
When a native bottom banner advert appears on an article page we pass one of the following:
- Ad Bundle ID (legacy)
- Canonical URL (recommend)
- Reader URL
It is recommended to use the canonical site URL if it exists. If you do not have a site, a reader URL can be used if your webreader. The webreader does not need to be live, but some set-up is required if not live. In both cases Google's Ad Manager Crawler bot must be allowed to crawl the domain.
For legacy reasons, the app can also send the bundle ID. Sending such a value is explicitly banned by Google Ads.
You can select which parameter to send in Express Settings under the Banner Ad Content Url Type heading. This is article dependent so changes will mean your articles will need to be reprocessed.
Timeline
When a native bottom banner advert appears on a timeline we pass multiple content URLs.
Pugpig Bolt will automatically pass the content URL of the first four articles on the timeline. It will use the same setting as on the article page to determine which URL to pass for each individual article.
This allows Google to better understand the content and context that the advert is appearing with, helping monetization.
