To publish an Apple News + edition you will need an Apple News + account that is purchased through Apple. We can only help publish editions if you have this type of account. Alternatively, you'll be able to publish to a standard Apple News channel.
Steps to publish content as an edition
- Create the edition. Mark the edition as draft/pending. If you publish Apple News article when an edition is already published then the articles will not be marked as draft in Apple News.
- Tag content into the edition. Note: articles need to be published in order for you to publish them in Apple News but if they're inside a draft edition then they won't go live.
- Check the articles have been added into the edition, if yes then proceed to next step.
- Go to Apple News > Articles to publish articles. You can do this individually or in bulk depending on template selection.
- Once articles have successfully published, go to icloud.com. You'll then see your articles have been published as draft (if you did the first step correctly) however you'll want to turn these into an edition now.
- Go to the Issue tab and click 'create issue'. You can then select your issue identifier from the list. It will use the edition key from the CMS so if you don't see it try searching.
- You should see all your articles pulled into your Apple News edition in the same order as they appear in the CMS flatplan. All articles should be marked as draft at this stage.
- Fill in details about the issue and check the draft articles.
- Once you are happy with content, adverts and order you can publish the issue.
Publishing RSS content to Apple News +
If RSS to Apple News + is being used, then it's likely the set up will be a mixture of automatic publishing and manual intervention for the editions.
To do this you'll need:
- An RSS feed for articles
- An RSS feed for edition meta data (the editions must be marked as draft to allow for manual intervention)

The publishing process for automatic RSS content for Apple News +
Note that steps 1-4 from above are not relevant if you have automatic publishing set up for Apple News. For that, follow the steps below:
- Once articles are pulling into their draft editions, you'll be able to manually edit the content. When you're happy with the article you can publish it (remember if it's in a draft edition in our CMS it won't go live in the app). This will then also automatically publish it to Apple News with the isPreview draft flag.
- You can then proceed to step 5 on the process above.
